AFL CAIRNS: Can crocs extend streak into July?

Published Friday 24 June 2016

PORT Douglas will look to push its winning streak into July when it hosts Centrals Trinity Beach tomorrow.

The Crocs have not lost a match since April 9 and will make it nine-straight if they can overcome a tricky clash with the Bulldogs at the Port Douglas Sporting Complex.

Brad Cooper’s men have been irrepressible since going down to South Cairns Cutters in round two, taking all before them to sit on top of the AFL Cairns ladder.

They have seven players selected in the North Queensland squad for the representative clash with South Queensland on July 16, such has been their dominance.

Port Douglas recorded an impressive 43-point victory the the Bulldogs the last time they met with Jonathan Hobbs, Peter Bury, Ashley Davidson, Kye Chapple and Declan Kelly all dominant.

Central Trinity Beach have, however, shown they’re a more than competent outfit for much of the season and sit third on the table. They pushed reigning premier Cairns Saints all the way a fortnight ago and rebounded with a thumping 52-point win over Manunda Hawks last week.

Respect will need to be shown to Bulldogs goal-sneak Brian Durbidge tomorrow, who booted five goals last week, while midfielders Jayden Holt and Damien Row have given good supply to forwards Joshua Brinn (18 goals) and Ryan Lempa all season.
