Mossman songwriter misses out on APRA Music Award

MOSSMAN songwriter Kylie Sackley has narrowly missed out on APRA Music Award at the prestigious ceremony held in Sydney last night.

The former Mossman local, now based in Nashville, was nominated for an overseas Recognition Award after writing songs for the likes of country superstars Keith Urban, Faith Hill and Leann Rimes.

She left Far North Queensland when she was 17 to pursue her music career, winning a Golden Guitar  before turning her attention to writing for others. It was an inspired move and led to her being nominated as Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year Award at last years APRA ceremony.

Had Sackley been in able to attend last night she would have rubbed shoulders with the likes of Tame Impala, Courtney Barnett, Hilltop Hoods, Jarryd James, Lee Kernaghan and Birds of Tokyo.
