A newly developed e-book will give visitors to the The Bloomfield Track a better understanding of the indigenous culture and natural history of the area.

Visitors to the 33km walking track will be taken on an electronic driving experience through the bush land guided by special road markers.

The e-book will be officially launched by the Douglas Shire and the Wet Tropics Management Authority in the coming weeks, who have been working with the Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation, Tourism Port Douglas, the Douglas Shire Historical Society and local businesses to an effort to enhance the Bloomfield Track Trail experience.

The e-book will focus in introducing local plants and animals of the region to the listener and will share stories about the significance of parts of the track through Traditional Owners.

WTMA program manager Paul Chantrill said the project was an example of what can be achieved through collaboration.

“The project was born out of consultation with those in tourism in the Daintree tourism industry who noted the opportunity to improve the visitor experience as they travel along the Bloomfield Track,” Chantrill said.

“It is important stakeholders work together to support this rich and interesting part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area in a culturally and environmentally sensitive manner.

“The project puts the destination and its visitors first and foremost and we’re very proud of the outcome.”
