THE Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas Resort is on track for a glamorous high season re-launch after completing the first phase of its $40million refurbishment.
The iconic resort unveiled a taste of its chic new look with 146 of the resort’s 294 guest rooms now fully renovated, showing off a stylish design highlighted by swim-out rooms and suites.
A total of 53 new lagoon edge guestrooms and studio suites have been completed, giving guests access to the luxurious pools direct from their balconies.
Nathan Gadd, Sales and Marketing Director of the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas Resort, said the successful completion of phase one offered a glimpse of the ‘wow-factor’ they hoped to recapture after starting the significant redevelopment in May last year.
“We are working towards everything being completed by May (2016) which will encompass all our accommodation rooms, food and beverage outlets, public areas, outdoor landscaping and lagoon pools, so it’s very extensive,” Gadd said.
“For our guests to be able to come out of their unique Lagoon Edge rooms and access the saltwater lagoons directly is obviously a key feature. In conjunction with all the work being done to the landscape around the lagoons it offers a truly modern beachside resort atmosphere.”
The interior design of the guestrooms now feature more opulent, canopied bedheads while some of the balconies offer daybeds. The new design stays true to the resorts sophisticated yet relaxed persona, and were inspired by the tropical north Queensland surroundings and the property’s timeless elegance.
"We're very excited to be unveiling the newly refurbished guest rooms," Steve Molnar, General Manager for the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas Resort, said. "Taking inspiration from the original hotel designs, we have been careful to retain the rooms unique and distinctive features to create a modern beach side villa look that our guests will love, and identify with as a home away from home."
The final phases of the renovations will see the style and design continue through to the public spaces with a fully refurbished lobby cafe bar and lounge. The resort will also boast a revitalised food and beverage service and a new ‘Feast Restaurant’ overlooking the resort's vast swimming lagoons.
The exterior colour of the resort has also changed, now four shades lighter than the iconic peach tinted style introduced by Christopher Skase in 1987.
