Local man James Watson is calling out to 100 Douglas men to share their stories, in a hope to bring awareness to men who have helped shape the Douglas Shire to what it is today.
“I am determined to get 100 stories by Easter next year,” said a committed Mr Watson.
The idea of the iconic stories was developed during Men’s Week at a breakfast held at the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre, after discussions about women and men’s recognition in the region.
Five men’s stories were presented at the breakfast and Mr Watson thought it would be good idea to increase the stories to 100 in order to publish a book.
The Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre is prepared to look into potential funding, once the 100 stories are received advised Centre Manager Siobhan Delgado.
If typing and emailing may not be the strongest skill set of anyone who would like to contribute their story, Ms Delgado said there is potential for assistance.
“We can assist with typing and formatting if anyone requires it,” she said.
Interested men are also encouraged to attend the Men’s Group every Wednesday at 8:30am at the Centre to engage with others over a breakfast.
