DTAG (Douglas Theatre Arts Group), held its Annual General Meeting in its premises on Wednesday evening.
In true theatrical style, the attendees were warmed up by our very own international opera star Alteouise Devaughn. Ms Devaughn performed a rousing rendition of ‘Down by the Riverside’ and members heartily joined in.
Mayor Julia Leu, who has always been an avid supporter of the Clink and local arts, opened the meeting. Cr Leu reminded us how lucky we are with our small population, to have such a venue. She pointed out that it is used by young people to train in theatrical arts, attend workshops and obtain experience performing in front of live audiences.
The Mayor acknowledged the excellent work done by the Clink’s president Michael Kerr and his committee and volunteer helpers over the past year, in giving us a procession of Australian and International performers of such excellence as Marina Prior and Carlotta. Cr Leu also praised the abundance of local talent in quality productions such as Annie.
Michael Kerr presented the President’s reports and therein acknowledged the assistance given by the sponsors. He further acknowledged the tireless work of the outgoing committee and behind-the-scenes helpers. He touched on the dozen or so performances throughout the year and informed us that several were played to packed houses and one even extended its season.
When presenting the Treasurer’s report, Mr Kerr advised that the increased income generated this season, has been used to substantially upgrade theatre facilities, with still a more improvements to come.
The committee stood down and the following were elected to the Executive; a) Michael Kerr, President, b) Siobhan Delgado, Secretary c) Gail Jowett, Treasurer. Five other committee members were also elected.
President Kerr concluded by thanking members and patrons for their support, and reminded us that the next big production will be Grease.
