Whitelion Jungle Ride supports youth at risk

Whitelion is a leading national non-profit organisation delivering programs to improve the social and economic capabilities of some of Australia’s most high risk young people.

“We want to give every young person a chance to work, and reduce numbers in Australia’s youth justice systems,” advises Whitelion programs website.

The sole purpose of the Ride is to raise as much money as possible to help highly vulnerable young people involved with or at risk of involvement with the Youth Justice and/or Out of Home Care and Leaving Care services.  Whitelion is about making a positive difference in the lives of young people.

This year the annual Whitelion Jungle Ride from Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation will be held on Saturday 31st October 2015.

The ride starts at the Port Douglas Surf Club at sunrise and offers four distance options – Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation and back 180km, Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation and back to Daintree River 130km or Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation 90km.  There is also a shorter option of 40km from Daintree River to Cape Tribulation to encourage children to have a go.

This popular fun bike ride now in its 7th year continues to attract riders from all over Australia.  Last year almost 200 riders took part and helped raise over $25K for the non-profit Whitelion community charity which works with young people in the youth justice system.

Organiser and ride founder Lesley Stephens says “It’s a fun way to raise money for a great cause.  It’s not a race, all age groups and riding ability are catered for and it encourages everyone to challenge themselves as well as enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way.”

Each group will have a dedicated support vehicle and pack leader and there will be plenty of refreshment stops along the way.

Buses will transport riders and their bikes back to the Port Douglas Surf Club.  There will be fabulous prizes on offer to all riders including a brand new road bike for the highest fundraiser.

All riders are given a high quality race jersey as part of their registration.  It is great value for money and one of the most picturesque rides around.
