Volunteers from the Cancer Council Queensland will be found pushing their Daffbarrow around the streets Of Mossman and Port Douglas on Friday 28th August, all for a very good cause.

The Daffbarrow used for Daffodil Day will be full of fresh daffodils, pens, pins, footballs, magnets, ‘Tropical Douglas Bears’ and other merchandise to raise funds for the Cancer Council Queensland.

Last year a total of $6000 was raised by local volunteers from the  Mossman Port Douglas branch of Cancer Council Queensland. This year they hope to raise even more.

The Cancer Council nationally has the 28th August as Daffodil Day to show they care about beating cancer. 

The daffodil flower is used as a symbol of hope for all affected by cancer because of its reputation as a hardy annual flower.

In the month of August The Cancer Council Queensland aims to raise awareness of services available to people who are affected by cancer.

Raelene McDonald and her fellow bunch of daffodils from the Mossman Port Douglas Volunteer Branch, will also be setting up a merchandise donation stand outside Woolworths in Mossman on Friday 28th August, between 8:30am and 5pm. After 5pm you can donate at the Mossman Bowls Club.

Funds raised help towards the The Cancer Council’s Helpline, 13 11 20. The Helpline is available between 9am-5pm week days for anyone affected by cancer. Advice is available to everyone about a variety of cancer related services and information.

Marylyn Mayo Lodge in Cairns is an example of how funds are spent. The lodge is for regional patients who need a home away from home whilst receiving treatment. The lodge provides free accommodation and volunteers operate a free shuttle bus to and from Cairns Hospital. The lodge was part funded by generous donations to the Cancer Council Queensland.
