The Wildlife Habitat is committed to environmental sustainability through the education of visitors to the Wet Topics Region and the effective use of resources, while at the same time providing a quality Eco-Tourism experience that has minimal impact on the natural environment.

In a media release published today, they announce the re-opening of the Stork Tower and Rainforest Island:

Wildlife Habitat, Australia’s leading wildlife experience located in Port Douglas, is celebrating the reopening of the Wetlands Stork Tower, and the addition of the Rainforest Island gazebo.

Wildlife Habitat Manager Clare Anderson said the Tower and Gazebo openings were perfectly timed with the June/July school holidays and the Black-Necked Storks’ nesting.

“The Stork Tower offers an eye-level view of the storks and their nest, something you wouldn’t be able to see in the wild,” she said.

“The storks laid their first egg for the year on Thursday 2nd July, the second arrived over the weekend, and we are expecting more soon.”

The Stork Tower is accessed via the newly-constructed Wetlands pathway, which forms Stage 1 of the Wetland Recreation Project.  The lower level of the Tower will become home to some of the Wetlands’ smallest and most impressive species in the months to come, but for now, allows access to view the Wetlands from above.

Meanwhile, the Rainforest Island gazebo and beach has opened at Wildlife Habitat. The latest addition is the perfect location for private functions and events, or for enjoying the new gourmet picnic hamper.

“Rainforest Island is private and exclusive, and gives guests the opportunity to properly immerse themselves in the rainforests of Port Douglas,” Ms Anderson said.

“The area is available to all guests, but we recommend enjoying it as part of the YOUR Wildlife Habitat package, or with one of our new picnic hampers.
