Cow Bay man charged after Mossman detectives find huge haul of stolen goods

Mossman police have uncovered stolen goods by the shipping container-load after raiding a Cow Bay property and are now appealing to the public to help return the items to their original owners.

A 39-year-old man has been charged with a number of property related offences on March 25, 2015 after a search warrant was executed on his Cow Bay property.

Police seized a number of property items including eleven motorbikes, five quad bikes, three generators and a large assortment of tools and bike parts.

Mossman detectives are appealing for public assistance to locate owners for a number of property items.

It’s believed the man travelled from Lynwood, Western Australia some 12 months ago with a shipping container packed to the brim with property police believe to be stolen.

Police have identified some owners of the property who have been notified, however police continue to conduct further investigations in an effort to verify property ownership for other property items.

Detective Senior Constable Anthony Moynihan from the Mossman CIB said they believe the property is primarily from mining sites and towns throughout Western Australia and they would like to return the property to the rightful owners.

“It’s difficult to put a dollar value on the property seized as a lot of the property has been in shipping containers for the past 12 months with some wear and tear, but brand new it would probably be worth over $150,000.00 I would suggest.”

Police believe the property has been taken from areas around Western Australia, in particular Welshpool and Lingwood areas around Perth as well as mining towns to the south and out to Esperance, WA.

For those members of our community who have been targeted and not actually reported their crime, they are not too late to report it to Policelink on 131 444.

They must however ensure that their property is recorded as stolen and provide police with an accurate description of all property items stolen. Serial numbers and identification particulars will assist detectives in the recovery process.
