Douglas Shire Council has released advice for residents in anticipation of the impact of Tropical Cyclone Nathan, including details on rubbish collection, closures of the Daintree Ferry and availability sandbags in case of flooding. 

Free residential green waste will be available at Killaloe and Newell Beach Transfer Stations until at least Sunday. 

Scrap metal and whitegoods can also be dumped at these transfer stations for free.

Rubbish collection services may be interrupted on Friday and Saturday, depending on the cyclone. Updates will be posted to Council’s website and Facebook page.

Transfer station opening hours are Killaloe (8am-5.30pm Monday-Saturday, 9am-5.30pm Sunday), Newell Beach (1-5pm Wednesday, closed Thursday, 8am-noon Friday, 8am-noon Saturday, closed Sunday)

The Daintree Ferry will be closed from 7pm on Thursday 18 March so it can be secured to its moorings.

Sand and sandbags are available at the Port Douglas Community Hall in Port Douglas and the SES shed behind Council's Mossman Administration Building at 64-66 Front St.

Sand is also available at the SES Shed in Wonga Beach and Forest Creek and sandbags will be at these locations later this afternoon.

You will need to bring your own shovel for all locations.
