The Port Douglas and Mossman community is reeling after the death of 18-year old local man Daniel Smith from a shark attack yesterday. 

Daniel, who had just graduated from Year 12 at Mossman State High School, was attacked by the shark while spearfishing at Rudder Reef, 20 kilometres off the coast from Cow Bay. 

Tributes have poured in to Daniel’s Facebook page and a memorial page titled ‘Light a Candle for Daniel’ has been organised on the social networking site, with more than 500 people already signed up. 

Anyone wishing to farewell Daniel is invited to come down to the Sugar Wharf at 6:30pm tonight (Wednesday) light a candle, throw flowers and display ‘any other memorabilia’ they have of him.
