Wildlife Habitat in Port Douglas and Mossman State High School Year 11 and 12 students, have recently embarked on another public art project.  

This combined effort enables the Wildlife Habitat to provide free fun entertainment for visitors to the park as well as signing off course material for the students, who are completing a Certificate II in Visual Arts. 

The students have designed and painted three large interactive photo boards which visitors can enjoy by putting their heads into the artwork to become part of the image of a kangaroo, koala and even crocodile food.  It is hoped that the photo boards will add to visitors’ joyful and fun memories of the Wildlife Habitat.

Wildlife Habitat Sales and Marketing Executive, Narelle Csontos, said it had been amusing and exciting watching the students sketches come to life, from the initial hand drawn drafts to the finished painted photo boards. 

“Visitors to the park have already used the photo boards, putting their heads through the holes and making funny faces as they pose for the family holiday snaps.  The students really put some thought and effort into making the boards reflective of the animals we have in the park which encourages visitors to utilise them,” she said.

Ms Csontos explained that the project gives the art students an opportunity to showcase their work in a public area.  

“A mural that was created by the Mossman State High School art students in 2012, continues to receive attention and looks fantastic in our Wetlands restaurant,” she said.

Wildlife Habitat has invited the students involved in the project to an official signing on Tuesday 28th October at 9.30am.

The students involved include: Holly Assman, Bella Baxter, Amy Clinch, Kaylah Hartcher, Zoe Lester, Brianna Saxon, Daln Smith, Kristeena Snell, Zedikah Warrick, Jeorgia Westgate, Eliza White, Jesse Perrin and Jake Nelis.
