Douglas bids farewell to Sax Man

Thursday August 7 2014, 2:22pm

Port Douglas music icon Troy Stevens, also known as 'Sax Man', played his last gig at The Courthouse Hotel on Wednesday night.

Sax Man has been entertaining Port Douglas with his meaty sax tones for the last eight years and has become an intrinsic part of the music scene, but is now moving back to his roots in Adelaide.

Originally from the Murray Bridge area, he is returning to the bright lights of the big city to pursue his music career and his cabinet-making business.

Troy said it was a hard decision to go but a decision that had to be made nonetheless.

“It’s difficult for people here to put furniture in their suitcase to take back with them when they are visiting,” he said.

He added that the potential for openings in the music arena in Adelaide are worth the return trip.

When asked what he was most going to miss about Port he said “the atmosphere and the crowd.”

As a winner of the Best Live Local Entertainer Award in 2013 he has blown his way into the hearts of many locals and tourists.

The Newsport wishes him all the best for his future endeavours.
