Newsport launches Issue 14 of Port Douglas Magazine

Newsport launches Issue 14 of Port Douglas Magazine

Monday August 4 2014, 3:52pm

Weeks of work have paid off for Newsport Publishing after the launch of Issue 14 of the Port Douglas Magazine.

About 20,000 copies of the magazine arrived from the printers last week and are now beginning to circulate to Douglas hotel rooms and external distributors.

This issue’s focus was on fashion, anniversaries and people, with a three-page feature on the ‘Women of Douglas’ and coverage of milestones reached by Douglas icons such as Carnivale, Iron Bar and Nautilus Restaurant.

The latest issue also marks an increased distribution in Cairns markets, particularly the Cairns Central shopping centre.

A small launch party for the magazine was held at QT Port Douglas on Monday morning, with magazine editor Roy Weavers and Newsport managing director Sam Cullen thanking advertisers and contributors for making the publication possible.

Mr Weavers said Douglas Shire’s de-amalgamation from Cairns had created an ‘atmosphere of positivity’ and the multiple anniversaries celebrated in the issue showed Douglas was maturing as a region.

“It’s almost as if the town is celebrating a coming-of-age,” he said.

“We’ve always thought that Port Douglas is about three things - the reef, the rainforest and the people, and this time we’ve decided to shine a closer light on the people that live here and make the region what is.

“Without the people that live and work here, there simply wouldn’t be a Port Douglas.”

Douglas local Karen Warren attended the launch party on Monday morning and said that Port Douglas magazine was an invaluable asset to tourists and locals alike.

“It’s a very good magazine, it’s very informative,” she said.

“If you’re a visitor it can help you plan things out, even if the weather’s not too good you can find things to do in town.

“It’s also good for locals who want to see things like fashion and good retail opportunities.”
