Douglas Shire Council has reached a major post-deamalgamation planning milestone with the adoption of its Corporate Plan, which will guide the new council’s decisions for the next five years.

The Corporate Plan, in development since de-amalgamation, was officially adopted at a council workshop yesterday.

The plan will inform other major council documents such as the annual Operational Plan which in turn informs the yearly budget.

The document revolves around key themes including ‘Celebrating Our Communities’, ‘Building a Sustainable Economic Base’, ‘Improve Environmental Performance’, ‘Engage, Plan, Partner’ and ‘Governance’.

Part of council’s plan for building economic base include investment in new water infrastructure including a new reservoir.

To improve council’s environment performance the plan dictates increased efficiency targets in service delivery and the promotion of a ‘zero tolerance’ littering culture.

The plan also states council will look into improving waste recycling and energy-reduction programs in council facilities.

Council conducted an extensive public consultation on the plan in the months leading up to its adoption including workshops and online submissions.

Major Julia Leu said adoption of the Corporate Plan meant DSC could now move forward with its other plans.

“This is a very significant day for the new Douglas Shire Council as we adopt our Corporate Plan which ultimately sets Council’s strategic direction,” Cr Leu said.

“Council’s strategic priorities are clearly outlined in the Corporate Plan and it provides the framework for our staff to deliver the services our communities have identified asmost important to them.”
