Police have charged a 47-year-old Mossman man after he was located asleep in the back seat of an allegedly stolen vehicle earlier this week.  

Authorities will allege that the vehicle was stolen in the early hours of Wednesday morning a Mcleod Street residence and driven away.  

At around 6.45am the owner noticed the car had been returned and was parked on the street nearby in a damaged condition.  

Police attended and located the intoxicated man asleep in the vehicle.  

He was charged with one count of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 2.  

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
