The Douglas Junior Netball season began at Port Courts last Tuesday with the 10 and under division starting at 4pm.  

The Little Saints played the Young Comets  in a spirited game with lots of effort on both sides ending in a goal each.

Ashleigh Herrington for the Comets was a stand out and Courtney Geddes played well for the Saints.  

On court two the Young Stars took on Pink Lightning.

Both teams lived up to their names with lots of fantastic plays across the court,

Young Stars Layla Kerswell played a great game and Lani Dickson was excellent for the Lightning, final score 3-nil to the Stars.

The 12 and under competition started with Young Gems playing the Pythons.

The Pythons experience shone through from the first siren making the Gems, many in their first year up from 10s, work hard and step up. 

They managed six goals against the Pythons which is a great effort.  

Best players Sophie Kirk and Taleisha Carswell, final score 15-6.  

Fast Motion played the Young Sapphires and again the Fast Motion team mostly are newly up from the 10s who put up a gallant effort against the more experienced Sapphires.

The final score 18-nil did not reflect the effort put in by both teams, best players Jenna Kerswell and Sophee Watson.

The intermediate competition started at 5.30 with the Young Guns 1 team playing the SuperHeroes.

The SuperHeroes took a couple of quarters to settle into their game but steadied in the second half shooting six goals. 

Young Guns 1 are in their second year as a team and played well taking the game 23-6.

Best players Loukita Aston Boyle and Samaria Denman.  

Young Guns 2 played the 12 and under TID Squad.

The squad will represent Douglas in the Cairns regional representative competition in August to give the girls experience as a team they play up an age group.

Young Guns 2 played well under the watchful eye of Jenny Kirk shooting 20 goals to 4.

The TID squad put in a great effort and will improve over the weeks to come. Best players were Kate Padovan and Faith Kempster.

Round two will be at Port Courts next Tuesday.  

Coaches please ensure your team writes on the score sheet your players choice and umpires choose one best and fairest.
