Police continue to search for an overdue boat which was reported missing in the Coral Sea, east of Bamaga, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Authorities say an EPIRB activation was recorded in the area south of Jacky Jacky Creek around midnight and another from the same location at 2.40am.

It is believed to belong to a dinghy carrying a man and teenage boy which was due to return to Bamaga yesterday.

Thursday Island Water Police deployed two vessels to the area and has received the assistance of a fixed wing aircraft to search from the air.

Queensland Police say a helicopter is expected to join the search efforts today.
