Maintenance funding for Douglas schools
Port Douglas and Mossman's state schools are among 30 schools in Far North Queensland to share in more than $1.154 of State Government funding for school maintenance.
Member for Cook, David Kempton, said this latest round of funding is part of the Advancing Our Schools Maintenance Fund targeting school maintenance backlogs, and will help schools repair footpaths, replace carpet, and re-paint.
“Mossman High will receive over $110,000 to help with a backlog of maintenance tasks and repairs while Port Douglas and Mossman Schools will each get around $30,000,” he said.
“This is part of our Government’s ongoing commitment to the Cook electorate and the families and students in Port Douglas and Mossman.”
Mr Kempton said the Government had also made improvements by allowing schools to have maintenance completed by local tradespeople instead of using QBuild.
He said the previous Labor Government had left Queensland state schools with a $292 million maintenance backlog that saw schools in Cook fall into disrepair.
“Under the Newman Government, Queensland schools will once again be a place of pride for students to learn, teachers to teach and communities to gather,” Mr Kempton said.
