Over 400 excited locals and visitors turned out for the inaugural Rock the Yacht music festival at the Port Douglas Yacht Club on Saturday, enjoying an impressive lineup of local acts.
Willow Willis kicked off the afternoon, followed by the Omid Master Band, Sweet As (local favourites Tee Ketu and Mereana Pohatu), Saxy Fingers, and Timber and Wood.
As the sun went down, the noise cranked up, with a showcase from local legend Gregg Buchannans' The Antipodylans, the Time Bandits, and Green Doubt.
Good Counsel, featuring Kim Hurley, Dale Priem, and Benny and the Clones, debuted to enthusiastic cheers, followed by Cairns punk rock outfit No-Hype's angsty, noisy, in-your-face brand of music.
With the local government election earlier that day, 'Rock the Yacht' was also an ideal time to introduce and welcome Douglas Shire's Mayor-elect, Julia Leu.
The Port Douglas Yacht Club has long been a favourite venue for locals and visitors. After Saturday's success, Club manager Richard Stapleton is looking forward to hosting many more live and local music showcase gigs at the Yachty throughout 2014.
