Over 1200 participants ran in the CANEGROWERS Great Barrier Reef Marathon festival yesterday (Sun 3rd Nov) around Port Douglas and surrounding region.

The Port Douglas Esplanade was packed with supporters who braved early rain to support the runners as they crossed the line in each race. 

It was an amazing day with Clr Julia Leu, State MP David Kempton and CANEGROWERS CEO Brendan Stuart presenting the top three winners in each category with their prizes. 

Highlights of the day must go to two marathon legends.  Steve Moneghetti for winning the inaugural Steve Moneghetti Marathon by over 15 minutes and secondly to 72 year old South African Harry Botha who succeeded in his quest to run seven marathons on seven continents and he was deservedly presented with a special medal commemorating this fantastic achievement.  Harry only took up marathon running at the age of 65yrs old, so there is hope for us all!
