Another stolen bike recovered
Douglas bike theft victim Linda Vos is celebrating her return to two-wheeled pedal power this week, after her stolen bike was recovered by police at the weekend.
As The Newsport reported on October 11, Ms Vos and partner Daniel Hough's bikes were stolen from the carport of a Port Douglas Road resort on October 5.
The recent find is more good news for the couple, with Mr Hough's stolen Merida mountain bike found last week. As The Newsport reported, local man Warwick Bourgignon discovered Mr Hough's bike behind a large electricity box on a vacant residental lot on Endeavor Street in Reef Park, about 300m from Port Douglas State School.
Mr Bourgignon's initial find led to the recovery of a further eight stolen bikes, hauled from the creek behind the vacant lot.
Last week, PD Bikeworks' owner Thor Stovell urged owners to be more responsible about bike security.
"If you lock them, it’s very rare [to have them stolen]. It’s a simple thing," Mr Stovell said.
However, Ms Vos said she had secured hers, with the lock still on the bike when police returned it. Luckily, there was little damage.
"My bike only had two flat tires," Ms Vos said, "it looked okay though."
"I am just very happy that I have my transportation back. I have learned my lesson," she said.
"I am from the Netherlands and lived in Amsterdam for five years before moving to Port Douglas. In Amsterdam, leaving your bike unlocked is a guarantee that it gets stole; I guess Port Douglas is not so different!"
