Mossman Golf Club remembers Chisel

A strong field turned out to Mossman Golf Club on Saturday to honour the late Ian “Chisel” McCormack.

The club held an elimination ambrose event to honour one of the region’s most colourful characters and a great mate, with 84 players and visitors turning out to pay their respects.

Mossman Golf Club course also hosted a Labor Day competition last Monday, which was won in fine style by Ralf Middel with 40 points ahead of Scott Patterson 38 on a count-back to Paul White.

Nearest to the pins were Jeff Murray on 6, Paul White on 8 and 10, and Ralf on 13 and 17.

The final round of the Tuesday Championship event was won by Ian Johnson with 65 nett ahead of Peter Chrisfield 70 on a count-back to Geoff Parmenter.
Tuesday’s champion in the gross event was Peter Chrisfield, and nett Geoff Parmenter. Nearest the pins were Maurice Meth, Ian Steley, Ed Sant, Rick Herschell and Geoff Parmenter.

The nine hole Sporters on Wednesday was won by Joe Wild 24 ahead of John Cameron 21 and Bob Laybutt 20. Nearest the pin was number 10 John Deuble.

Thursday’s Ladies Stableford winner was Lyn Heimann with an impressive 42 points ahead of Ellen Clark 37 and Shirley Carney 36. Nearest the pin were Shirley Carney, Maxine Leigh, Lyn Heimann, Kerri-Lynn Williams and Tricia Landy.

The winner of the Friday Frolic was Matty Gray with 21 points for nine holes. A number of ladies also enjoyed playing three holes as an introduction to golf.
