Ruff Red leads spring series

COLIN SIMPSON

The forecast light winds kept a few competitors away as only six boats came to the line for race three of the Port Douglas Yacht Club Spring Series.

Doug Ryan’s Shazam lead all the way to record yet another line honours victory in the two-lap race.

Ann Sea was in second place when she retired from the race, leaving the smaller boats to fight it out for the minor places across the line.

In a tight tussle, Port FM Mais Oui edged out Ruff Red by less than a minute, with Island Girl fourth and Indigo fifth. With handicaps applied it was Ruff Red from Port FM Mais Oui and Island Girl third.

After three races, Ruff Red leads convincingly on three points from Port FM Mais Oui.

Next Saturday sees races four and five contested, with early indications of a 15 to 20 knot breeze.

PDYC Annual General Meeting 2013

Around 65 members attended the 2013 AGM of the Port Douglas Yacht Club, where attendees heard an update on the Club’s application for a new pontoon, as well as other items on the five-year development plan.

After many years of service, Vice Commodore Henry Cotter did not seek re-election, nor did committee man Simon Mcfie.  The rest of the outgoing committee was re-elected un-opposed.

The 2013/2014 committee is:

Commodore: Colin Simpson
Vice Commodore: Garry White
Secretary: Cheryl Wellham
Treasurer: Alan Schultz
Committee: Graham Moritz, Ken Brown and Todd Malone.

While the club is still trying to attract a Rear Commodore, a sailing committee has been elected to take charge of racing in the coming twelve months.

The club will upgrade its website to enable it to better disseminate information to the membership.
