Heartless thieves have stolen a pair of large shade sails from a Wonga Beach playground at the peak of the wet-season-build-up heat.

Both sails were cut down from the Wonga Beach Community Park playground some time across the Christmas period, with Douglas Shire Council issuing an appeal for information about the theft this week.

“This is incredibly disappointing for our community, especially for local families who use the playground over the holidays,” the DSC stated.

“Know anything about this shady act?”

Several Wonga Beach locals took to social media to vent about the low act.
