At Kubirri Aged Care Centre, the spirit of remembrance burned bright, as seniors took the lead in honouring ANZAC Day with a deeply meaningful tribute.

The seniors, along with committed staff, invested their heartfelt efforts into preparing for the day, adorning the foyer of Kubirri with a poignant arrangement of poppies, an ANZAC banner, and a statue representing sacrifice, all crafted during art sessions by residents and staff alike.

Residents also baked an ANZAC slice for the occasion, including resident Ron in the preparations.

On ANZAC Day itself, it was the seniors who stood at the forefront of the ceremony. Resident Ramon, a returned Serviceman, recited the Ode and a Chapel Service led by the Centre’s Chaplain. 

Maria, Kubirri's Lifestyle Coordinator, emphasised the cultural significance of ANZAC Day, stating, “It means that we can celebrate the life of our loved ones that we lost either in or through conflict and to commemorate their sacrifice and the sacrifice of all who have fought in wars to keep us safe.

“It is an important cultural day for Australians and New Zealanders.”
