A 21-year-old Manunda man remains in Cairns Hospital after being allegedly shot by Police following an early morning incident in a suburb in the south of Cairns.

Police were first called to a Bungalow address in Cairns just after 5:30am following reports of a woman in distress.

Upon arrival the man, known to Police, allegedly damaged a Police vehicle and threatened officers with multiple weapons.

He then allegedly stole a Police vehicle and drove it to a Woree location before he was intercepted by Police.

It’s understood the ensuing shooting incident has then occurred.

Police said multiple crime scenes have been declared and police investigations are continuing.

This matter is under investigation by Ethical Standards Command with the investigation subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
