Douglas Shire motorists are reminded the Captain Cook Highway will close all day this Sunday, June 16 for the Cairns Ironman.

Cairns Ironman personnel told Newsport the Highway between Port Douglas and Cairns will remain completely closed to all motorists from 5.30am – 5.30pm to cater for the cycling leg of the event.

“We urge road users to familiarise yourself with Sunday’s road closures and to plan your journey ahead of time to avoid being caught out on the day,” an event spokesperson told Newsport.

“Leaving earlier and allowing for additional travel time will also assist in avoiding potential delays.”

There will also be a host of road closures throughout Cairns, including those needing to access the airport, so Newsport readers are encouraged to plan accordingly.
