Scarecrow showdown as community crowns first Douglas Shire champions
SCARECROW COMPETITION
After weeks of amazing scarecrow creations and community voting, the competition has been a great success and Newsport is excited to announce the winners of the first Douglas Shire Scarecrow Competition!
The creativity and enthusiasm of Douglas Shire residents made this event, initiated by Tanya Morris from the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre, a highlight of our local calendar.
A total of 1,462 votes were cast through the Newsport poll. Thank you to everyone who participated and voted. Your support and creativity have made this competition a great success.
The winners in each category are:
Best School Choice: Scarecrow in red shirt (number 20), made by Wonga Beach School students
Best People’s Choice: Lockhart River Man (number 2), featuring a traditional grass skirt and spear, crafted by three girls from Wonga Beach.
Butterfly Garden Kid’s Choice: Stormy (number 22), made by Jeanie Hayden, which will be displayed in the Butterfly Garden at the Neighbourhood Centre.
Congratulations to all the winners! Each prize includes a $100 voucher in recognition of your innovative and dedicated efforts.
