LETTER TO ED: Water expert has say about ongoing failure of Douglas Shire water system
WATER ISSUES
Staff Writers
Dear Editor,
I write to you about calls for a petition around the ongoing issues plauging the Douglas Shire water system.
One thing I would like to mention is that some people do not understand what they are asking for: putting non-potable water into the system! This is a ridiculous demand. If you want non-potable water, there is plenty around – collect it yourself and use it as you like.
Once you put s**t into a potable water system, it’s very difficult and costly to get the system back to providing water complying with Australian guidance for drinking water.
On top of it, people having hot water systems (practically everyone) and especially solar HWS, would have to isolate their systems from this “non-potable water” or they would be up for costly cleaning or, in some cases, replacement.
That I will not sign the petition (about Douglas Shire water issues) and I hope no (Douglas Shire) decision maker will be negligent enough to follow this idea.
What I do agree with is the patronising way Douglas Shire Council has delivered its information to Douglas Shire residents and the long term, rather unprofessional approach to dealing with (the Douglas Shire) water supply system.
I totally agree with other frustrated residents.
Regards,
