I write to you regarding your story from last Friday about the increase of accidents along the Captain Cook Highway between Port Douglas and Cairns.

We drive from Mossman to Cairns and back about once a week and every time we see someone overtaking across a double line, and even once by one of the airport shuttles with a trailer!

This happens when everyone is doing the speed limit, so no excuse.  (Last Friday) we were driving north about an hour after the Oak Beach accident that Newsport reported.

In a relatively straight part everyone was going the speed limit but someone overtook all of six of us across a double line including a road junction. 

Ironically, shortly after that we were all stuck in the queue caused by the Oak Beach accident, including the dangerous driver. 

He was too far away to see the rego, but maybe the most forward overtaken driver did. 

The number of accidents per month, as reported by the Douglas Dashboard sign-up, is stupendous.  Reduce the speed limit or put in speed bumps?
