HIKE RESCUE: Police issue reminder after Port Douglas woman plucked from Far North mountain during daring night time rescue

A 23-year-old Port Douglas woman is counting her blessings and has probably learnt a big lesson after being successfully plucked from an iconic Far North hiking trail during a daring late night search and rescue mission just a short time ago.
The Douglas woman had aims to reach the summit of ‘Kahlpahlim Rock’, or ‘Lamb’s head’ summit, which is situated about an hour’s drive from Port Douglas but changing weather conditions and fading light saw her call emergency services around 6.30pm in a bid for immediate assistance.
Despite limited phone service the woman was able to get a call through, with hard working SES volunteers and dedicated police officers soon ascending the mountain after receiving the distress call and eventually locating the tired and lucky hiker around midnight.
“Police want to remind anyone bush walking or planning a trip to make sure you carry plenty of water, tell someone where you are going and what time you are expected back, ensure your mobile phone is fully charged and carry a personal locator beacon,” a police spokesperson told Newsport.
