'No place like home' - Canada based, favourite son to release latest single that pays tribute to Mossman

He got his start on season four of the Voice Australia and now years later one of Mossman’s favourite artists continues to kick goals since relocating to Canada to further his career.
Before leaving Australia Mikhail Laxton, from KuKu Yalanji Tribe in Mossman was making a name for himself as an indigenous singer/songwriter.
In more recent times the Ottawa based musician has moved into the blues genre.
While he’s been away from home for some time now, it seems you still can’t take Mossman out of the boy with the singer recently paying homage to his beloved hometown.
His latest track ‘Mossman’ – a tribute to his home town and the second single off his self-titled debut full-length album, will be released on August 18.
“I’m a Mossman boy through and through,” Laxton told Newsport.
“This is where I, and my people, are from. The funny thing is that when I was younger, I never could see it for what it is. A paradise.
“On one of my most recent visits, on my last day, I went out to the beach at low tide, I walked out onto the mud flats, and I looked back at this beautiful place. I saw the beach, the mountain, the beautiful blue sky.
“I wondered why I ever left that place.
“Of course, I have made my home on the other side of the world, but as they say, 'there's no place like home'."
