New Craiglie streetlights not at ratepayers expense - Mayor

A TMR funded project to brighten up and increase general road safety at a Craiglie intersection is now complete.
“Streetlight rectification works were (recently) carried out on the Captain Cook Highway at the intersection with Dickson Street at Craiglie,” a TMR spokesperson told Newsport.
“The works included replacement of electrical ducting, cables and pits, the installation of one new pole and three new pole foundations.
“They were required to ensure safe operations of the streetlights.
“The total cost of these works was $400,000.”
Council debunked rumours that the new lights were at local ratepayers expense.
“The new street lights in Craiglie were completed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) after strong advocacy from myself for residents to fix the dangerous intersection that had no lights for many months,” Douglas Shire mayor Michael Kerr confirmed to Newsport.
“The works were at no cost to Douglas Shire Council.”
