'Carnivale' to galvanise and unite Shire as residents get ready to celebrate

The Douglas Shire will explode with colour, fun and frivolities when the staging of the 29th edition of the region’s premier event, Carnivale officially gets underway in 24 hours' time.
The wonderous Spiegeltent has already kicked things off ahead of tomorrow's popular longest lunch.
Tomorrow evening hundreds of locals and tourists alike are expected to enjoy the much-anticipated street parade.
The FNQ Gin Fest, YOU AM I concert and family beach day is scheduled for Saturday and a Seafood Extravaganza will round things out the following day.
“The program is fresh and fun and offers great depth of things to do across community, culinary, live music, theatre, arts and culture, entertainment and sport,” an enthused Douglas Mayor Michael Kerr remarked.
“Now in its 29th year, the 10 days of Carnivale sees the region come to life in a celebration that engages locals and attracts visitors from across the country.
“It’s the biggest party of the year along Macrossan Street, and a great night for those involved.”
