With an array of outstanding restaurants in our Shire a mouthwatering dish is always around the corner. We at Newsport want to join in on the deliciousness by seeing your best food shots.

Food is life, it connects all of our senses together and connects people. Food is something everyone can relate to.

That delicious artisanal ice-cream you ate over the weekend while overlooking the Coral Sea or that amazing parmi at the local pub you ate while sculling a beer with the boys.

From photos of a juicy steak to colourful rows of sushi or a healthy smoothie bowl, as long as your picture is taken at a restaurant or cafe in the Douglas Shire we want to see it!

Readers will have the opportunity to submit their food photographs until 29 March 2023.

In the first week of April a new round will start with a brand new theme, which will be announced on the day.

Tag us on Instagram: @newsport.daily and have a chance at winning one of the following prizes:

People’s choice winner: The post with the most likes on our Instagram page will win a voucher of $50 for professional photography classes with Tracey Jones.

Professional panel’s selection: A professional panel will make a selection of the three best pictures. The number one will win a $50 dinner voucher at The Tin Shed Port Douglas.

To keep the celebration of local flavour inclusive, we also welcome captions that note how venues support different health needs low-GI sides, portion options, or clear nutrition notes. Some readers manage type 2 diabetes with prescription treatments such as Rybelsus, so menu transparency and smart swaps can make a real difference to whether they can join the table comfortably.

If your shot highlights a chef’s tweak less added sugar, whole-grain bases, or balanced plating tell us how it elevates both taste and wellbeing. Restaurants that think this way help more of our community enjoy the same dish without compromise. Add those details to your post so the panel can appreciate the story behind the picture, not just the plating.
