Crocodiles spotted wandering through town

Two unwelcome visitors have been caught wandering through Ulysses Avenue in Port Douglas last Friday night March 10.
Police were patrolling when they were waved down by some persons present.
Port Douglas Police Station Sergeant, Damian Meadows, said one of the reptiles was close to 2 metres but very capable of doing serious injury or killing an adult.
“The second crocodile was smaller at about 1,5 metres,” Sergeant Meadows said.
“The Department of Environment and Science were contacted and made aware of the sighting and police erected warning signs.
“Police would like to remind the public that during periods of heavy rain and higher than normal water flow, crocodiles are known to migrate between water courses.
“It is a timely reminder that they are an Apex Predator and not to be messed with. In the event you see one, call Policelink on 131444 and police will notify the relevant authorities and erect warning signage.”
