Douglas Shire netball star continues to dream big
NETBALL TRIUMPH
Aspiring netball player and Mossman High student Brooke Harold, recently made waves with her team at the QLD State Schoolgirls Netball Championships held in Brisbane.
Leading the U15’s Peninsula team as captain, Ms Harold’s outstanding performance earned her a spot in the highly coveted U15’s Queensland state team.
As a result, she will be representing her state at the upcoming national championships in Perth, slated for late July.
Looking back at the recent tournament in Brisbane, Ms Harold stated that being named in the possible/probables for the Queensland team was definitely one of the highlights.
“At that moment I felt a mix of emotions all at once,” she shared with Newsport.
“Overwhelmed with excitement and nervousness, I experienced a tremendous amount of joy and love when I received the news. It was truly the best feeling.”
In that overwhelming moment, Ms Harold found solace and guidance from her club coach Kym McPhee.
“Kym was on the phone with me instantly to support me and discuss a detailed plan of action. To be completely honest I don’t know what I would do without her. She is my biggest inspiration as a player, and she is always there to guide me.”
Passion for the sport
As Ms Harold’s love for netball began at the age of six, representing Queensland holds a tremendous honour for her.
“As somebody who comes from a small town, this achievement is such a huge deal and I couldn’t be more excited for the nationals,” she said.
To prepare, she has been travelling to Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast for team training sessions while receiving coaching from Brothers Leprechauns Netball Club in Cairns and dedicating herself to scoring 300 goals daily.
“The Brisbane tournament has given me such a confidence boost and showed me that my hard work is slowly paying off,” she said.
“Making the Queensland team is an achievement that I am so proud of and it is just a step forward in the direction I want to be heading.
“I hope to one day play for the Firebirds and hopefully play in the Commonwealth games alongside some of my personal idols.
“Some advice that I would give to young netball players would be to just have faith in yourself. Take in every bit of advice from your coaches and trust that you are good enough.”
