WHAT THE?: Dual grenade discoveries prompts bomb squad to Ellis Beach

Some extremely observant lifeguards alerted Police to two rather bizarre, unique and whacky finds a short time ago at a neighbouring Port Douglas beach.
Just 48 hours ago the lifeguards called for assistance to Ellis Beach after locating what was initially thought to be a hand grenade, of all things, laying doormat within the sand on the north side of the beach.
Shortly after Police confirmed the area was “cordoned off” and bomb disposal experts were called in from Townsville to attend the site.
Yesterday the bomb disposal team further investigated the site and discovered a second device.
Police said the devices were found to be a “World War Two style hand grenade and a Japanese stick grenade”.
Police confirmed each item had already been rendered inert with their fuses removed.
Both devices were taken for disposal by the bomb disposal team.
Police suspect the devices had been left at the site sometime in the last 12 months.
