New busker in town charms Port Douglas with soulful sounds

Hailing from a small town in the heart of Italy, armed with her guitar and a captivating voice, Viola Filippini arrived in Port Douglas just a month ago, ready to share her talent with the local community.
Newsport recently discovered Ms Filippini performing at the Port Village Shopping Centre and seized the opportunity to delve into her background.
With previous experience playing in bands back in her home country, Ms Filippini took a leap of faith and decided to explore the world of busking upon her arrival in our seaside town.
“I had never played on the streets before, but it was something I always wanted to do. So, when I arrived in Australia, I made up my mind to give it a go,” Ms Filippini shared.
“What I've noticed here is that people become more engaged when they hear music on the streets compared to Italy, where most people just continue on their way.”
Entering the local music scene
With a diverse repertoire of funk, blues, and soul, Ms Filippini draws inspiration from artists like Beth Hart and John Mayer.
Upon arrival in Port Douglas, she quickly became a regular participant in the jam sessions at the Central Hotel in Port Douglas and the open mic nights at Dougies Backpackers resort.
These opportunities helped her bond with local musicians, creating a strong sense of camaraderie in the lively music community.
Her talent and dedication recently earned her a gig at Paddy's, where she now performs every Sunday at 2.00 pm.
