Transfer company to trial new school bus run

Douglas Shire parents in need of an extra transport option ahead of the upcoming school year are in luck following a recent announcement by Exemplar.
A short time ago the well-known transfer company confirmed it will trial regular daily services between Port Douglas and Miallo State School during the first term and from there, determine if the run is proving viable.
“The service will be for up to 20 students each day. It will depart from the Habitat car park in Port Douglas at 8am sharp, arriving at Miallo SS at around 8.30am,” an Exemplar representative told Newsport.
“The return after school will depart the school at 3.10pm and is expected to arrive at the habitat at 3.30pm. There will be no stops on the journey to or from school each day.
“Parents will need to book their children for the full term and preference will be given to families who book the service five days a week, return basis.
"Based on 48 school days in term one the cost will be $576 per student. Costs will vary for any student/family who does not commit to a five days a week, return basis. If necessary the fare can be paid in up to three instalments.
“The service will be accommodated on either a 13 seat Hi-Ace people mover or a 20 seat coaster. Both vehicles are fitted with seatbelts.

Another local company RodgersRides operates a school service from Mowbray to Miallo, however its manifest is already close to capacity.
