Imagine you’re getting married. What better way is there to seal your love with wedding rings that are made and designed all by yourself?
This brilliant idea came to live when local Port Douglas jeweller Lindsay Currie came across many people asking for classes to make their own authentic jewellery.
Seven years later his jewellery making workshops are still popular as ever with people even coming up from Melbourne to make their own wedding rings.
In the 70’s Mr Currie finished his apprenticeship in Melbourne and for the past 20 years he has been working as a jewellery maker.
For over 40 years he has been calling Port Douglas is home, designing and selling his handmade jewellery at his shop on Macrossan Street.
“I enjoy making jewellery the authentic way from melting down gold or silver to designing and making a beautiful jewellery”, Mr Currie said.
“My specialty would be making chains, melting gold, bending, soldering and filing each link.”
A MYRIAD OF OPTIONS
“I get all sorts of requests for jewellery designs but most rewarding is when couples come in to make their own wedding rings”, Mr Currie continued.
“People can book a half day class or a full day class with me.
“During a half day it’s possible to make a ring, earrings or a bangle.
“On a full day we can get you to make a more intricate piece.”
