Mossman Gorge re-opens as official search called off

Two full weeks’ after a 54-year-old woman went missing, feared drowned by fast flowing currents a spokesperson has confirmed a popular swimming hole has officially reopened to the public.
The Department of Environment and Science (DES) confirmed Mossman Gorge re-opened just hours ago 14 days after the tragic disappearance of the swimmer at the gorge on January 6.
Newsport understands the woman remains missing.
Queensland Police Service, along with emergency services and DES rangers, conducted extensive searches of Mossman Gorge waters and the surrounds before the official search was called off on Monday, January 16.
“Out of respect for the woman and her family and friends, Mossman Gorge has remained closed to visitors,” (DES) said.
“During this time, traditional owners have conducted smoking ceremonies within the Daintree National Park Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land (CYPAL).
“The Department extends its sympathies to the family and friends of the woman, and thanks police and emergency services for their efforts during the search.
“The tragic incident has impacted on the local community, and visitors to the Daintree National Park (CYPAL) are reminded to pay attention to all safety signs.
“Conditions in the Mossman Gorge can change quickly, especially during times of heavy rainfall, and water levels can rise rapidly. To stay safe, visitors are continued to be advised not to swim.”
