Cheaper flights on Bonza to the Sunshine Coast and other destinations a step closer for Douglas Shire residents

Cheaper flights to key holiday destinations across Queensland for Douglas Shire residents are a step closer this afternoon after Sunshine Coast based airline Bonza received its long awaited tick of approval to take to the skies across Australia.
The Australian Government’s granting of Bonza’s newly acquired Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) means cheap flights to and from the Sunshine Coast, Mackay and Rockhampton are now just months away.
Bonza explained to Newsport this afternoon that AOCs are required by all airlines that fly scheduled passenger services in Australia.
These certificates are issued following a thorough examination of an airline’s facilities, processes, appropriately trained personnel and capacity to operate safely.
Bonza is the first new high-capacity entrant to Australian skies since Tiger airways around 15 years ago.
"We are thrilled to announce Bonza has been granted its Air Operator Certificate,” Bonza CEO Tim Jordan told Newsport just moments ago.
“We're finalising our preparations to go on sale with flights from our Sunshine Coast base which includes Cairns to Sunshine Coast (five flights per week), Cairns to Rockhampton (twice weekly) and Mackay (also twice weekly).
“Once those preparations are complete, the Douglas Shire community and its surrounds will be able to book flights via the Fly Bonza app.”
