Sharkies to receive timely upgrade

The mighty Mossman Sharks will see the footy that little bit more easily later this year following a key development at Coronation Park.
Douglas Shire confirmed in its first Ordinary meeting of the year early yesterday that it would give the green light to a contract of $288,753 to GHM Solutions to improve general lighting at the venue.
Under the contract four new light towers with smart technology will be constructed which will include LED technology and a user-friendly smart lighting control system.
Council advised the new 27-metre-high lights are expected to be “installed mid-2023”.
Council gained the grant funding through the Department of Sport & Recreation Active Game Day program.
Douglas Shire Councillor Roy Zammataro spoke of his delight about the project, while referring to previous games at the venue that had to be called off, because of poor lightning.
Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr meantime, said, improving sports facilities helped encourage the community to engage in sport, recreation, and healthy activities.
“The new light towers are a fantastic investment that allows us to replace the current floodlights on wooden poles which are about 30 years old,” Mayor Kerr said.
“Our local rugby league club will be thrilled to have brighter and more reliable lighting for training and night games this season.”
“Council identified the need to replace the lighting in its Coronation Park Sports Masterplan which can be used by local sporting clubs, organisations and Council to seek grant funding from State and Federal Governments.”
Douglas Shire confirmed the new lights will have automated controls which can be managed through a cloud-based system.
