Overpassing lanes between Mossman, Port Douglas on State Government radar

Frustrated local motorists looking for a more regular breezy and uninterrupted commute between Port Douglas and Mossman may have cause for minor optimism following an admission from the State Government.
Local road users have long pressed for overtaking lanes to be constructed at different points along the Captain Cook Highway between the two centres considering the increased traffic flow that specific part of the roadway now experiences each day.
While stopping short of saying it will happen immediately the State did admit it’s something that is on their radar.
"More passing opportunities are being considered for the Captain Cook Highway between Port Douglas and Mossman," a Transport and Main Roads spokesperson told Newsport.
"Construction of overtaking lanes on this section is currently unfunded.
"They will be prioritised against other competing projects across the state as funding becomes available."
The Douglas Shire Council has thoroughly endorsed any upgrades or improvements to this specific roadway between the two towns.
"We have seen multiple accidents on that road in the past 12 months and I absolutely support further investigations by the State Government into improving this stretch of highway," local Mayor Michael Kerr added.
