Fruit, veggies and other stock in sparse supply after Rocky train accident
LOW SUPPLY
Locals and tourists alike have been left scratching their heads over the past 24-48 hours after being greeted to vacant fruit, vegetable and other food aisles at Coles on Macrossan Street in Port Douglas.
A Newsport reader wandered into the chain to purchase some lunchtime items earlier today but like many other customers was met with aisles that were barely stocked with produce.
Bananas, limes, lemons, apples, lettuce and strawberries were all in low supply around 1pm today.
Newsport understands the shortage has been put down to the collision of a freight train and coal train at Marmour, South of Rockhampton on January 29, at around 7.30pm which, as a consequence has halted produce arriving into Douglas and being re-stocked onto local shelves.
Newsport reached out to Coles for official comment about the matter but did not receive a reply before the story deadline.
