Daintree Ferry resumes after heavy rain, repairs

Stranded residents, visitors and other travellers are again able to cross the Daintree River with the re-opening of the Daintree Ferry after more than two days.
A short time ago, Daintree Ferry resumed services, with full loads of vehicles waiting to cross.
The Ferry was shut down early on Friday morning when the level of the Daintree River reached unsafe levels after heavy rainfall in the region.
Debris, including heavy items, got caught in the Ferry cables which had to be removed and some cables replaced before the service could start operating again.
Crews started work on Saturday and resumed their efforts early this morning to get the Ferry back into service. The River height has also receded.
Meanwhile in an unrelated matter, the Ferry will be disrupted at around 1.30pm tomorrow (Monday, February 20) for about 30 minutes, when a scheduled regulatory inspection and weight-taking occurs, requiring all vehicles and staff except the ferry driver to leave the vessel for the calculation.
