Port Douglas resident Sara Mulcahy has confirmed her intention to run for a Councillor position with Douglas Shire Council at next March's local government elections.

Ms Mulcahy has lived in the Douglas Shire for four years and said she plans to bring a fresh eye to Council business.

Throught a written statement she said her focus is on "safeguarding the future sustainability of the Douglas Shire, while remaining sensitive to its history and traditions".

The freelance travel and lifestyle journalist passion for the Shire is there for all to see having written many articles about the area.

The 50-something mother of two believes the school gate is one of the best places to hear about the day-to-day issues that local parents, grandparents and carers are facing.

And as a single mum, she knows how to prioritise, listen and play nicely.

“I’m a positive person! We all love where we live," Ms Mulcahy said.

"I look forward to working as part of a team, where each member can present their own local feedback, and matters can be discussed openly to achieve the best outcomes for the residents of the Shire.”

Ms Mulcahy said her future priorities for the Shire include: the long-term economic growth that is sensitive to our social and environmental goals, a renewed focus on family-friendly facilities and initiatives, fair distribution of discretionary budgets and a Council that works together to get the best outcomes for residents of the Douglas Shire.

Election day is Saturday March 16, 2024.
